COMMITTEE REPORTS
Alertify: The band fees for 2010-2011will include the Alertify charge. There will be a freshman fee and an upperclassmen fee. Color Guard members who are not band members will have a minimal $2.50 fee.
Uniforms: Thank you to everyone who has helped with uniforms during the year. There will come a time when new uniforms will be needed. Immediately, new gloves will be needed for the fall. Each year we lose the use of 2-3 pair of pants; there are several pair which are too large to be altered. The life of the typical uniform is 7-8 years and we have passed that already. An order was placed yesterday for the white band tee shirts which are required to be worn under the uniforms.
Color Guard: Practices have started. There are 24 students currently on the squad. Junior high students are eligible. Contact Carol Avossa for information. There may be performances during half time at basketball games.
Bandwear: There are new items available and orders are due Monday 6/7. Order forms are on the website. An Alertify reminder will go out.
Equipment: No report.
Yearbook: The yearbooks arrived at Trish Schneller’s house this afternoon. There are about 20 extras ordered. We will sign off by the end of June to confirm using the same company next year.
Chaperones: Thank you to all who helped chaperone parades and other events this year.
NYSSMA: We made almost $2,000 from the food concession. Thank you to all who helped.
Ways and Means: A new coordinator for the Igive program is needed. Recycled cell phones and printer cartridges coordinator is also needed. Contact Tammy Paquette for information. The Barnes and Noble fundraiser raised a little over $500 this spring. The Panera fundraiser raised around $150.
Webpage: Information is updated regularly on the website.
Publicity: Kingston is one of 3 shows in danger of being cancelled for lack of participation. If Mohonasen loses their show, we may have to go to Long Island in order to be able to squeeze in 5 competitions for the season. We need a minimum of 5 bands to sign up for our show to run. Once we get the word that the show can be scheduled, we will need all hands on deck and planning meetings will begin again in earnest.
OLD BUSINESS
Band Banquet order forms are due June 14th. Forms are available on the website.
A mailing will go home during the summer outlining band camp information, among other things. Joan Alley will coordinate the dessert night at the end of Band Camp. We will also need someone to organize the pizza dinner night during Band Camp. There are some local food service businesses we can contact about doing a Barbeque family fundraiser night, open to the public, during Band Camp (Gisiano’s, Hickory BBQ, Misasi).
NEW BUSINESS
Field Show music can be heard by going to the following website:
Arrangerspublishing.com and search for Joseph Curiale.
MR. GARNER’S CORNER
Freshman Orientation will probably be the morning of June 19th. It will be an information session for students and parents who have definitely committed to participating in the band program. The program is affected greatly by those students who participate throughout the summer and then quit at the end of the summer. Band Camp dates are posted on the website. There will also be sectionals held at public locations or at student homes. Freshman marching rehearsals are held at Hutton Park and are led by Mr. Avossa. Several dates will be published along with attendance requirements. There will probably be two full band rehearsals this summer.
NYSSMA majors had 3 bands from JWB, 3 from MCM, and 5 from KHS. Freshman band played level 4 and earned silver. Concert band played level 5 and earned gold. Wind Ensemble will play tomorrow.
Thank you to all who helped chaperone the Memorial Day parades.
Students will receive their field show music on Friday and begin working on it. Freshmen will get their music on the 19th at the information session.
The outpouring of support, both emotional and financial when Andrew Wise’s father died was overwhelming. $400 was collected and sent to the family.
Mr. Shaut is retiring at the end of the year. Students and parents will be contributing along with alumni, teachers, and others toward a lovely gift that he and Mrs. Shaut can enjoy. The Booster club will front the cost for this gift and be reimbursed by any donations that come in. Checks can be made to KHS Band Booster Club.
The band’s last performance is graduation on June 25th.
Motion to adjourn made by: D. Hoban-Weeks
Seconded by: R. Melnik
Respectfully submitted,
Lyn Umble
The next meeting is Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.
